Garden of Dreams and MSG Entertainment host "Shadow Day"
Monday, July 30, 2012
On Thursday, July 27, twelve teenagers from the Garden of Dream Foundation’s partner organization, SCO Family of Services, spent the day shadowing MSG Entertainment employees and getting a “behind-the-scenes” look of the Madison Square Garden Company. To start the day off, students and MSG Entertainment employees enjoyed donuts and an introductory DVD that showed the teens all MSG has to offer. The students were then paired up with employees from the Public Relations, Marketing, Productions, Creative Services, Branding, Merchandise, Special Events, and Finance departments. All of the teens involved had a special interest in Visual and Performing Arts, so they were anxious and excited to start shadowing their departments.
A couple of teens spent the morning at Radio City Music Hall, where they were given a tour, learned about the Christmas Spectacular costumes, and watched the Rockettes practice. Other students sat in on meetings, helped their department conduct research for future products, gave input on new merchandise and advertising decisions, and saw first-hand how much work is required to run a single event.
Students and staff reconvened for lunch, where the teens shared their experiences with the group and discussed what they learned about Madison Square Garden. MSG Entertainment staff provided the students with various MSG gifts and valuable advice for beginning a career in the corporate world. The day was enjoyed by both students and staff, and the twelve teens left MSG inspired to work hard to reach their goals.
The Garden of Dreams would like to thank the MSG Entertainment staff for hosting and welcoming the teens into their offices and for giving them an unforgettable experience!
