Power Players Try Hockey for Free

Friday, February 14, 2014

On Friday, February 7 the Select players from all three Power Players teams came together at the Madison Square Garden Training Center where the New York Rangers practice, and took the ice to try hockey for free! These players are veterans at floor hockey from participating in the Power Players program for the past two years, however getting on the ice was an entirely different experience.

Upon arrival, the children from Garden of Dreams partner organizations, Children’s Aid Society, Harlem Dowling and WHEDco arrived wearing their Power Players wearing their practice jerseys and went straight to the locker rooms to lace up their ice skates and put on their helmets, elbow pads and knee pads. Then, the fun began! After a few minutes of becoming accustomed to the skates and the ice, the children got into a few hockey drills with their coaches. Many of the players even proudly conquered the biggest feat of skating with a hockey stick!

To conclude the event, all of the organizations came together on the ice for a group picture and then they laughed and chatted about how much fun they had over hot chocolate and cookies. It was the perfect ending to another successful Power Players season.
